Mini-DisplayPort is a miniaturized version of DisplayPort, the newest digital display interface developed by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). DisplayPort's simplified construction and plug-and-play design provides ease of use and lower costs since one cable can be used to carry both analog and digital audio/video.
Major-brand laptops (such as the Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air) are now being manufactured with a Mini DisplayPort output connector, allowing them to connect an external DVI, HDMI, or VGA display/projector from one convenient port.
The Gefen Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter allows you to use an external single-link DVI-D compliant (digital only) display as your main workspace or to extend your desktop with two DVI displays. You can also use the Adapter to work in mirrored mode with a DVI projector so your audience can view your laptop screen.
How It Works
Locate the Mini DisplayPort connector on your laptop. Firmly insert the Gefen Mini-DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, mini connector side facing the laptop. Attach your DVI-D compliant monitor's input cable to the larger side of the Adapter containing the full-size DVI-D connector. Power on your external monitor/projector/HDTV. You should see a beautiful, sharp image.
Note: This Adapter only works with digital signals and not analog. You cannot simply connect the Adapter to a DVI-I accessory, for instance.
